New Drug Could Help Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Patients
A new drug made by MannKind, known as Afrezza is currently geing tested as a solution for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients that need to better control their blood sugar levels. The formula is being recommended because it is said to reduce the instances of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar.
This condition is very dangerous for patients because of the fact that it can often lead to hospitalization and severe complications that could lead to death. The convenience of using a solution that can be inhaled and does not cause pain, as supposed to many diabetes medications, is considered good for patients.
The company is currently working to obtain insurance coverage as well as greater acceptance from the medical community. The product is already available in some pharmacies across the United States. Afrezza is a small, handheld inhaler device. The lead investigator in the clinical trials, Steve Edelman of UC San Diego, says that the benefit of the drug over other items is the fact that it gets into the bloodstream faster than other drugs and is also eliminated more quickly.
Therefore, Afrezza may be able to help directly at the time when glucose levels are spiking from the intake of carbohydrates.
