Plant-based Diet Could Help With Cancer, Diabetes and Obesity

Many research studies have indicated that adopting a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and cancer. This statement is according to Sharon Palmer, who is a registered dietitian nutritionist. Adding more vegetables to the diet does not have to start with a complete overhaul. Instead, patients can start by having a vegetarian meal one day per week. As the individual becomes accustomed to the new routine, additional meals can become “meat-less” meals.
Another way to incorporate more vegetables into the diet is to simply add additional vegetables in place of other ingredients. For example, the meat dish can be a combination of both meats and vegetables. Also pasta dishes are an excellent opportunity to incorporate additional vegetables. Foods such as whole grain pastas and rice dishes are highly recommended as foods to incorporate.
While some patients may be concerned about the loss of nutrients due to the adoption of a plant-based diet, these nutrients can still be obtained through supplements and making sure to eat a variety of minimally processed foods.
