Weight Loss Surgery Could Decrease Diabetes Risk
For individuals that are significantly overweight, a new study has indicated that bariatric, or weight loss, surgery is a good option for lowering the risk of diabetes. The risk of diabetes can be reduced by up to 80% in people that are obese. The most common types of weight loss surgery that are offered are gastric bypass and gastric banding. The findings from this study were published to the journal, The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.
