How to Eliminate Stigma of Having Diabetes
Many people with diabetes often feel serious feelings of blame or fear because of the many stereotypes that there are about diabetes and the management of diabetes. An example of this is a person that might think that is it is not okay for them to admit that they can't eat a particular food. That person might also not want to take insulin in front of others to avoid making it obvious that they have a medical problem. In addition, age plays a factor as well as many young diabetes patients may feel very isolated in dealing with the problem because of the fact that they are faced with healthy peers that have very little to no insight or understanding as to how diabetes works and the stereotypes surrounding diabetes care.
