There are many different conditions associated with diabetes, and one of these is eye disease. There are 3 main forms of eye disease that are more common, which are diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. Each one of these eye diseases can ultimately lead to blindness if they are not detected and treated early. Cataracts are usually seen in older people, but can occur at a much earlier age in those with diabetes. Glaucoma is also an age-related disease, except for diabetics, who are nearly twice as likely to get glaucoma.
