Type 1 Diabetes and Acne

Acne is a skin condition that more commonly appears during adolescence. However, adults with diabetes may also continue to suffer from acne in a slightly more moderate or milder form. Hormonal changes during adolescence can cause acne to develop, and this is even more so if you have Type 1 diabetes. Researchers believe that this is because of the high blood sugar levels, which seem to have a big impact on the development of acne. If an adult has severe acne, it is often a ‘warning sign’ to health professionals to test for Type 2 diabetes.
