How and Why to Lose Weight with Diabetes
When a patient is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, they are generally overweight at the time of the diagnosis. Obesity and type 2 diabetes go hand in hand and when you are overweight, it prevents your body from using insulin the correct way, causing insulin resistance. When a patient loses weight, it is not only healthier for them, but it allows the body to be able to use the insulin that it produces in the correct way. You should go for about 30 minutes each day, but in the beginning, that may be hard if you are not used to exercising. Start out with small spurts and work your way up gradually. Once you start to get more energy, add some cardio to your workout, such as swimming. Using handheld weights at home work just as well as the ones at the gym and you can be in the comfort of your own home.
