Obesity and type 2 diabetes go hand in hand and when you are overweight, it prevents your body from using insulin the correct way, causing insulin resistance. When a patient loses weight, it is not only healthier for them, but it allows the body to be able to use the insulin that it produces in the correct way. For someone that has been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is important to get on a plan for weight loss as soon as possible.

As you start to lose weight, you are going to notice many changes in your body. Of course you will see that you are getting thinner, but you will also feel better. Your energy level will get a boost and you will be able to do more. Weight loss is also beneficial for lowering your cholesterol level, which is crucial for diabetics as you will also lower your risk for heart and cardiovascular disease. Another important benefit is that you are going to have an easier time controlling your blood glucose levels and you may find that you will need to use less insulin if you are taking this medication on any level.

If you have tried to lose weight in the past, you know how difficult it can be. Anyone that is trying to shed a few pounds can find it difficult no matter if they have diabetes or not. For someone that is diabetic, however, the weight loss is needed and if you are having trouble getting started on staying on track, a dietician may be just what you need. Start out by making changes that are small so that you do not feel overwhelmed. Cut back on the snacking that you do during the day and eat smaller portions. These are great ways to get going with weight loss.

Of course getting some exercise also goes a long way to helping you lose the pounds and it helps you to get fit and feel better as well. Many think that they need to join a gym in order to get the right exercise, but you can do things at home that work just as well. To get started, take a walk around your neighborhood each day. You should go for about 30 minutes each day, but in the beginning, that may be hard if you are not used to exercising. Start out with small spurts and work your way up gradually. Once you start to get more energy, add some cardio to your workout, such as swimming. Using handheld weights at home work just as well as the ones at the gym and you can be in the comfort of your own home.

Finding the time to exercise can sometimes be hard with our busy schedules today, but 30 minutes is all it takes to get in shape. Combine diet and exercise for great weight loss
